About Line 10

Stations
3111 with an interchange
Route
Tres Olivos – Puerta del Sur
Hospital Infanta Sofía – Montecarmelo
Length
38.34 kmbetween stations, CRTM open data

Both ends of Line 10 lie outside the city of Madrid: Hospital Infanta Sofía, in San Sebastián de los Reyes, and Puerta del Sur, in Alcorcón. It is split into two sections, run separately, that meet at Tres OlivosES. From Alcorcón it runs alongside the A-5 motorway up to Príncipe Pío, crosses the centre deep underground and then follows the Paseo de la Castellana north; MetroNorte carries on to Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes.

It connects with every metro line except Line 11: Lines 1 and 9 at Plaza de Castilla, Lines 6 and 8 at Nuevos Ministerios, Line 7 at Gregorio Marañón, Lines 4 and 5 at Alonso Martínez, Line 3 at Plaza de España, Line 12 at Puerta del Sur and the ML1 light-rail line at Las Tablas.

Length: the sum of the distances between consecutive stations published by the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid (CRTM) in its open data (network routes, updated on 29 May 2026), in one direction and counting every section of the line. It measures from the first station to the last, without the track that continues beyond the termini, so other published figures for the length of the line may be higher. Neither Metro de Madrid nor the CRTM publishes an official length for each line.

Stations on Line 10

31 stations, 11 of them with an interchange to another line (marked with a ring and the colours of the other lines).

History

It grew out of the Ferrocarril Suburbano de Carabanchel, a suburban railway opened on 4 February 1961 between Plaza de España and Carabanchel and run by a state-owned company rather than by Metro. On 18 December 1981 it was extended to Alonso Martínez and joined the Metro network as Line 10. Príncipe Pío was added later, when the Line 6 circle was completed.

On 22 January 1998 it reached Nuevos Ministerios and took over the old Line 8 as far as Fuencarral. In 2002 it was converted to the wide profile, and on 22 October that year it handed the section from Aluche to Casa de Campo over to Line 5, which now ends at Colonia Jardín. On 11 April 2003 it reached Alcorcón with the opening of MetroSur, and on 22 December 2006 Aviación Española was added in between.

On 26 April 2007 MetroNorte opened, from Tres Olivos to Hospital Infanta Sofía, at a cost of €784.5 million. It was meant to be Line 14, coloured aquamarine, and at some stations you can still see strips of that colour beneath the blue ones of Line 10. Since 28 March 2026 the section between Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco has been closed for the rebuilding of Santiago Bernabéu station.

Hours and frequency

There is currently no service between Nuevos Ministerios and CuzcoES in either direction, because of the full renovation and accessibility works at Santiago Bernabéu, which remains closed. A replacement bus at no extra cost covers the gap.

At Tres Olivos you change trains across a central platform. Towards MetroNorte you go through without validating, but you need a ticket to exit between La Granja and Hospital Infanta Sofía; towards Madrid you validate a Metro ticket at Tres Olivos. On weekdays trains run every 3.5 to 4.5 minutes from 7:00 to 9:30 and every 5 or 6 for most of the rest of the day; at weekends, every 7.5 minutes, and after midnight, every 15.

The trains

Until 1992 the line ran only 300-series trains; after that they shared it with the 2000A series, which then had it to themselves until 2002. The conversion to the wide profile brought the 7000 series, initially covered by 8000-series trains coupled in multiple because deliveries were late. Units from the 9000 and 9400 series joined later, and since February 2021 MetroNorte has been receiving 8000-series trains from Line 12.

Frequently asked questions

It is closed for full renovation and accessibility works. While they last, Line 10 does not run between Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco, and there is a free replacement bus for Metro passengers. The closure began on 28 March 2026.

Because the line is run as two independent sections: the central one, from Tres Olivos to Puerta del Sur, and MetroNorte, opened in 2007 up to Hospital Infanta Sofía. You change by crossing the central platform at Tres Olivos; the MetroNorte platforms are 90 m long and those of the central section 115 m.

MetroNorte was planned as a separate Line 14, starting at Chamartín and coloured aquamarine. In the end that idea was dropped and Line 10 was extended instead, but at several stations aquamarine strips are still visible beneath the blue ones of Line 10.
