Two lines at different depths share this station. The Line 3 platforms, opened on 15 July 1941, lie under Calle de la Princesa, level with the square; those of Line 10, in service since 4 February 1961, run deeper, under Calle de los Reyes. The station sits between the neighbourhoods of Argüelles (in the Moncloa-Aravaca district), Universidad and Palacio (in the Centro district).

It has three ticket halls: Leganitos, with entrances on Gran Vía, Reyes and Princesa; Plaza de España, with a lift down to the Line 3 platforms; and Conde de Toreno, whose lifts serve the Line 10 platforms. A tunnel links it with NoviciadoES on Line 2, so you can change lines on foot. Since 5 December 2020 the diamond-shaped Metro logos at its entrances have been painted in the colours of the Spanish flag, as a tribute to the Constitution.
