Line 12 is a 28-station loop that never enters the city of Madrid: it links Alcorcón, Móstoles, Fuenlabrada, Getafe and Leganés with one another, and is also used for trips within each town. All its stations are in zones B1 (Alcorcón, Getafe and Leganés) and B2 (Fuenlabrada and Móstoles).

To get into Madrid you change to Line 10 at Puerta del SurES or to Line 3 at El CasarES. There are Cercanías (commuter-rail) connections at Alcorcón Central, Móstoles Central, Fuenlabrada Central, Getafe Central, Leganés Central and El Casar. Although its platforms are 115 m long, demand only justifies three-car trains.

Length: the sum of the distances between consecutive stations published by the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid (CRTM) in its open data (network routes, updated on 29 May 2026), in one direction and counting every section of the line. It measures from the first station to the last, without the track that continues beyond the termini, so other published figures for the length of the line may be higher. Neither Metro de Madrid nor the CRTM publishes an official length for each line.

History

It opened on Friday 11 April 2003, together with the Line 10 section between Colonia Jardín and Puerta del Sur. For the first time the five large towns in the south of the Comunidad de Madrid were linked by rail without going through the capital, which marked the start of a transport network around Madrid that is not centred on the city.

Since then sections have closed for works in the summers of 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2021. In early 2021, 12 9700-series trains transferred from MetroNorte entered permanent service.

In 2024 the works to link the tracks with Line 3 forced the closure of the section between Juan de la Cierva and Los Espartales from 1 to 21 March, with El Casar as the only station without service. The section from Los Espartales to El Casar reopened on 22 March, and the one from El Casar to Juan de la Cierva stayed closed until 31 August 2024.

Hours and frequency

Because it is a loop, you choose a platform rather than a destination: platform 1 leaves Puerta del Sur towards San Nicasio and platform 2 leaves Puerta del Sur towards Parque de Lisboa. Drivers change over at Loranca after completing a lap. On weekdays there is a train every 5.5 to 6.5 minutes between 7:00 and 9:30, and every 7.5 minutes for the rest of the day; at weekends, every 7.5 minutes from 7:00. After midnight the interval is 15 minutes.

The trains

Although the line can take six-car trains, it runs three-car sets because demand is low. In early 2021, 12 9700-series trains — the three-car version of the 9000 series — joined permanently, transferred from MetroNorte, where they had been running until then. With them the line still operates short trains at 115 m platforms.

Frequently asked questions

No. It is the only metro line with no station in the municipality of Madrid or in zone A. It connects with the capital via Line 10 at Puerta del Sur and Line 3 at El Casar.

Yes. At least three have been dug but not opened, in areas earmarked for future development: Poza del Agua, in Leganés, between San Nicasio and Puerta del Sur; El Vivero, in Fuenlabrada, between Hospital de Fuenlabrada and Loranca; and La Pollina, also in Fuenlabrada, between Parque de los Estados and Arroyo Culebro. They would still need their ticket halls fitted out and the platforms connected.

A simple rule: because trains run on the left, the inner track runs anticlockwise and the outer, longer one clockwise. So platform 1 is the anticlockwise direction and platform 2 the clockwise one. Look at the metro map and choose the one with fewer stops to your destination.
