The trains came before the metro: the Cercanías station opened on 18 July 1967 inside the tunnel nicknamed the Túnel de la risa, and the metro took another 12 years to arrive. On 11 October 1979 Line 6 opened, with entrances from the shopping centre, Orense and Agustín de Bethancourt and long passages to Cercanías. On 9 June 1982 the old Line 8 arrived from Fuencarral; in 1998 it became part of Line 10. Its platforms were fitted with metal extensions for the narrow trains until they were refurbished in 2001.

On 22 May 2002 the extension of Line 8, which terminates here, opened with a ticket hall and interchange finished in white vitrex panels, so spacious that it has been used for exhibitions and shows. It included airport check-in desks, which stopped operating when the T4 opened. On Line 6 the marble on the platforms was replaced with white vitrex. Since 28 March 2026 Line 10 has not run between Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco because of the works at Santiago Bernabéu, and a free special bus covers the gap.

On the circular lines, Metro de Madrid's timetable sheet only prints departures up to 0:00 on the days shown, although trains keep running after that every 15 minutes: the operator does not publish the time of the last train, and we do not estimate it.

Departure times at this station from the timetables Metro de Madrid publishes for the current season. Public holidays follow the Sunday timetable.

Frequently asked questions

Not any more. The station had a ticket hall with airport check-in desks, opened with the Line 8 extension in 2002, but the service ended when Terminal 4 opened, even though Line 8 trains have run to the T4 since 3 May 2007.

The platforms were built for the old Line 8, which dates from 1982. When it was merged into Line 10 in 1998, metal extensions were added so that narrow-profile trains could use them. They were removed in the 2001 refurbishment, when the wide-profile 7000 series trains returned.
