How the route is worked out

The planner knows every line and the travel time between each pair of neighbouring stations. It finds the fastest combination and adds 4 minutes per change and about 6 for the walkways between differently named stations (Noviciado–Plaza de España and Embajadores–Acacias), which Metro de Madrid does not time.

Metro de Madrid publishes the first and last train times, but during the day it only publishes the interval between trains for each time band. So the planner counts half the interval of that line, at that time and on that type of day, as waiting time: the arrival time is an estimate, not the time of a specific train. It takes into account the 1:30 closing time and works that cut a line, but not on-the-day incidents: check metromadrid.es before you travel.
