Estadio Metropolitano metro station
Line 7 · Zone A · San Blas-Canillejas
Estadio Metropolitano station
It opened on 5 May 2007 as Estadio Olímpico, together with the MetroEste stations in Coslada and San Fernando de Henares. It marks the boundary between the Metro network and MetroEste: to continue in either direction on Line 7 you have to change trains across the central platform, which has its own ticket machines and ticket gates, because the fare changes. With 115 m platforms and four tracks, it is one of the largest stations on the network.
In June 2017 it took the name Estadio Metropolitano, after Atlético de Madrid’s new stadium, and the old Metropolitano station was renamed Vicente AleixandreES to avoid confusion. On 7 September 2017 its decoration was replaced with the club’s crests and its former stadiums. Between 19 July and 13 October 2014 it served as a terminus while 6.5 km of tunnel towards Hospital del HenaresES was waterproofed.
